Solo Flute - The Nutcracker - Volume 2
The pieces are in the order of The Nutcracker Suite - not in order of difficulty; some are much harder than others.
The fastest versions on the CD have “Complete” and “Background” (where some melody is omitted); short introductions have been added in some of the movements to make it possible to play along with the CD - the “real” beginning of each piece is bar 1.
ARABIAN DANCE This is in the original key (G minor); however, in this arrangement, to avoid the use of 16th and 32nd notes and, thus make the piece appear less intimidating, all of the rhythmic values have been doubled and the meter changed from 3/8 to 3/4.
CHINESE DANCE This piece has been transposed to F major (down a fourth from the original key of Bb major)
DANCE OF THE REEDS This piece has been transposed down a tone to C major (from the original key of D major) and, to avoid the use of 32nd notes and, thus make the piece appear less intimidating, all of the rhythmic values have been doubled and the meter changed from 2/4 to 4/4.
WALTZ OF THE FLOWERS The piece has been transposed up a semitone to Eb major (from the original key of D major). In addition, the first 33 bars of the original introduction (which included an 18 bar Harp cadenza) have been omitted, as have the last 75 bars of the Coda at the end; it is, however, still the longest piece - you end up playing more than 280 bars!
